On May 1, 2025, Douglas Wicks, program director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy, gave a guest lecture at a seminar hosted by UCLA Samueli, where he shared insights on the major challenges facing the mining and processing of critical minerals and constrained mineral supply chains due to geopolitics. He was introduced by Alissa Park, the Ronlad and Valerie Sugar Dean, who is a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, and civil and environmental engineering.
